The present manual is addressed to Central Railway and covers the subjects of Non Destructive Testing (NDT) and inspections including NDT. The manual has been prepared as part of a pilot project in the area of Non Destructive Testing of railway bridges on Central Railway. The manual describes the basic issues regarding planning, execution and reporting of bridge inspections including NDT-investigations. Selected types of damage and damage mechanisms are also described in this manual as an extensive knowledge of the possible damage mechanisms and signs of damage are very important for selecting the right NDT-method to apply in each individual case. Selected NDT-methods to be used on concrete, steel and masonry bridges are described in the manual. The methods described in the present manual are primarily the NDT-methods included in the pilot project program.
